Cranberry Sauce Debate: Canned or Homemade? Ocean Spray’s Survey Reveals Thanksgiving Passions

One of the most fiercely debated topics when it comes to Thanksgiving dinner is whether canned or homemade cranberry sauce deserves a place on the table. If you’ve ever broached this subject with your dinner guests, you’re likely aware that people hold strong and unwavering opinions on the matter. To settle this culinary dispute, Ocean Spray conducted a survey that divided participants into two camps: Team Homemade and Team Canned.

Let’s delve into some of the survey’s intriguing findings:

More than half of Americans firmly assert that cranberry sauce is an absolute must for their Thanksgiving meal. Among these devoted fans, a staggering 83 percent firmly believe that Thanksgiving simply isn’t complete without a generous serving of cranberry sauce.

It’s not just a condiment; it’s a way of life for some. A surprising 21 percent of Team Homemade enthusiasts are so enamored with cranberry sauce that they would willingly ink themselves with a tattoo as a tribute to this culinary delight. This fervor is not lost on Team Canned, with 15 percent of their ranks also expressing a willingness to sport cranberry-themed ink.

Cranberry sauce preparation rivals the fervor of sports fandom for many. An impressive 46 percent of respondents claim to be as passionate about perfecting their cranberry sauce as they are about supporting their favorite sports team.

A preference for cranberry sauce is not to be taken lightly. A substantial 28 percent of cranberry aficionados view it as a “red flag” if someone they know doesn’t share their preferred cranberry sauce choice. Clearly, this condiment holds sway over relationships and judgments.

Intriguingly, Ocean Spray’s inquiries to the dating site OkCupid uncovered that some individuals are so committed to their cranberry sauce allegiance that they proudly display it in their dating profiles.

As Thanksgiving approaches, the age-old debate rages on: canned or homemade cranberry sauce? However, there’s no need to choose sides definitively. This Thanksgiving, remember that there’s no rule against serving both options, ensuring everyone’s cranberry cravings are satisfied at the festive table.
